The smooth, efficient movement of flocks of sheep is an integral part of the great chain of pastoral activity which supplies wool to the mills and meat to the food shops around the world. The sheep dog plays a part on the assembly line of this industry which is second only to that of the flock masters and shepherds themselves. Indeed it might well be claimed that the value of well trained dogs matches, if it does not actually exceed, that of the men behind them.

There can be no question that an animal as clever as the sheep dog deserves a carefully planned upbringing and education. If he gets it he will reward his master not only with unstinting lifelong service but by bringing continuous pleasure to their working partnership.
